Postage stamp collection

Creation of four postage stamps inspired by the landscapes of the Canary Islands to recover the essence of collectibles.

Project overview

Individual project

Role

Graphic designer

Duration

2 weeks

Tools

Adobe Photoshop

CHALLENGES

Define a theme for a collection of stamps created from scratch digitally. These should be individual with unique elements but aligned with the overall concept of the collection, so that the end result is a conceptually and aesthetically coherent set.

OBJECTIVES

  • Creating postage stamps digitally

  • Apply the texture of silkscreen engraving

  • Implement digital editing and retouching skills

CONCEPT

Bring back the value of postage stamps by means of designs that refer to landscapes of the Canary Islands.

Before starting to create the stamps, I made a moodboard of the aesthetics I wanted to follow as inspiration. Finally I decided a monochromatic aesthetic where there is a main representative and unique landscape for each stamp accompanied by the place and the price of the stamp with a sans serif typography to generate contrast with the traditional texture.

CREATION PROCESS

Creating is based on editing, compositing, rectifying, layering, texturing, adjusting... and repeating.

In the process of creating the stamps I experimented with the different tools provided by Adobe Photoshop to achieve the textures and aesthetic that I had defined for the stamp collection.

STAMP COLLECTION

Individual elements that together create a whole, islands that create a community and stamps that create a collection.

REFLECTION

Traditional art in a digital way

This project has allowed me to experiment with Photoshop textures, layers and brushes to achieve a balanced result between the graphic quality of a digital design and the realism of silkscreen textures.

I have learned to adapt physical effects on a digital support by editing effects, creating irregularities, grain and texture imperfections. The creation of a collection of digital stamps has made me reflect on traditional art and the adaptation to new technologies to achieve authentic and attractive elements.
